Lee Sanders: Weekend Provocation — Snow Leopard Edition
Aug 28th, 2009 | Category: Articles
I thought I’d use this week’s Weekend Provocation to provide everyone with an open thread for reactions, thoughts, horror stories and/or rave reviews on the new Mac OS: Snow Leopard, which debuts tomorrow. I read on Mark Mosher’s Twitter feed that Ableton is recommending users of LIVE avoid the upgrade… at least until Ableton can release an update in a few weeks that’s guaranteed to be rock-solid.
My Adobe Creative Suite (version 2) will also have to be upgraded—it’s not compatible with Snow Leopard, either. Kontakt 3 and above are reported to be compatible, as is Digital Performer 6… and beyond that, my software list currently has far too many “unknowns” for me to make the leap to (Snow) Leopard. Not yet, anyway.
All this drama for a software upgrade that is almost entirely “under the hood”—! Sort of reminds me of the bad old days of, say, System 8. If you weren’t there, you didn’t miss a thing. Promise.
So here’s your thread—I hope the new OS doesn’t provoke you too much! But please let us know what’s working, what is not working, and any solutions you might have. This is one of the great things about the community. We can get this info out there quickly.
P.S. PC users… keep smirking. For now. :-)
